What glorious true tales from the land of the Gulag! How different from America- her whole outlook even before embracing the Faith. Such depth. And the wonders resulting from their experiences. And her trust in good outcomes despite the dismal state of Russian society. Very inspiring, Jim! Perhaps it is only through trials that one develops depth. We Americans need to be patient, depth takes time.

Last weekend I watched “Life Is Beautiful” an old Italian movie. I’m sure you saw it. If not, please get it from the library. I think you’d get much from it.

Thank you Jim for this timely essay. I recall marching for peace in Washington during the first Middle East conflict and feeling repulsed by the actions those I was surrounded by. It was an eye-opening experience for me.
